Six things to wait for in St Albans

It occurs to me that a lot of my time in St Albans in spent waiting:

1. Queuing for a late night taxi home from St Albans station (average wait = 30 mins)
2. Queuing at St Albans Post Office to post a parcel on a Saturday (average wait = 40 mins)
3. Blood test at St Albans hospital (wait after taking a ticket from the machine = 2 hours)
4. Waiting for one of St Albans premier managing agents to sort out problems with our building's windows (wait since problems were acknowledged = 2 years).
5. Waiting for the morning train to London (completely unpredictable. Note that when St Albans trains run on time, it's news.)
6. Waiting for house prices to fall / income to spectacularly increase so that we can afford to buy a house here (In a month of Sundays).

I was born in St Albans, so feel obliged to comment! Having lived in exile from the city for nearly 40 years, I now live in another small city (York) which is similar in nature, especially when it comes to the historical side (Roman, medieval minster ...), but we don't have to wait too long for most of the things on your list (about half the time). House prices aren't falling much though; York is expensive for Yorkshire but you'd still probably cry at how little it costs for semi-detached. However, pay is less up here, so it's swings and roundabouts. In all, I think I prefer York, except they all have funny accents up here :-)

I lived in York for four years as a student, and funnily enough it influenced my decision to live in St Albans, because of the historical similarities and that I very much enjoyed my time living in York, the historical city, when we were looking to move to Hertfordshire.
